Choosing to follow the soul-called writer’s path is not always easy. To write is to lay yourself bare on the page by following your desire to express something of your soul and share it with the world. It requires that you learn how to navigate the complex and changing terrain–meet moment to moment storms, deviations, delays, shadow figures and beast lurking in the thickets–so you might arrive where you want to go and also be taken to places you didn’t know were possible, places you didn’t know you needed to go.

Soul-Called Writers and the Restorative Writing Cycle

If you’re called to write, there is a deeper longing to exhale something of your soul into this world. This is your unique voice. You may not know specifically what that is, that’s what writing reveals. You must connect to, honor, nurture and continually act upon that desire to exhale something, because it’s critical to who you are and why you’re here. That something is the gift you’re here to give at this critical time of great cultural and climatological change

Understanding the restorative writing cycle and what it means to be a soul-called writer helps you do just that. It shifts writing from being an act of obligation, to an act of devotion. It shifts your focus from writing projects alone, to creating a writing life. The Restorative Writing Cycle follows a sustainable rhythm: 1) agenda free, alive writing, 2) identifying your voice, 3) developing your work, and 4) finding an audience.

Being connected to what this looks like for you is the source of your motivation to write and your ability to make doing it, and sharing it, a priority.
